    SIMON

    THE STORY BEHIND OUR BOWLS

Subwoofer’s bowls began with Monkey, my tiny black and tan partner in crime and a designer feeder from Germany. It was lovely… until it wasn’t. The bowls clattered, Monkey's ears got wet and cleaning was a chore.

So I started over. Every detail was reconsidered — from the silent fit and floppy-ear dip to the bowls themselves and the stands that hold them. The goal wasn't simply to make a better dog bowl, but one that was a pleasure to live with every single day.

Every detail was reconsidered — practical, beautiful, and designed from a dog’s point of view, built to look at home in yours.

A bowl you’ll love as much as your dog does.

    FAQs

WHICH SIZE BOWL SHOULD I CHOOSE?

The right bowl size depends on your dog’s size, muzzle shape and usual meal portions. If you’re replacing an existing bowl, comparing its diameter and capacity with the measurements below is often the easiest way to choose.

    Small

Best suited to many dogs weighing approximately 5–15 kg.

    • Diameter: 14 cm
    • Depth: 6.5 cm
    • Capacity: 450 ml
    • Stand height: 15 cm
    • Overall height: 16 cm

    Medium

Best suited to many dogs weighing approximately 15–35 kg.

    • Diameter: 20 cm
    • Depth: 8.5 cm
    • Capacity: 1 L
    • Stand height: 18 cm
    • Overall height: 20 cm

Our elevated bowls may not be suitable for very small or low-to-the-ground dogs, such as teacup breeds or miniature Dachshunds, as the height may make them difficult to use comfortably.

For dogs over 35 kg, the Medium is generally a good option for water. For food, suitability depends more on meal size and the bowl width your dog needs than on weight alone. Dogs eating large raw meals or oversized bones may require a larger bowl.

The Duo keeps food and water together, while the Solo lets you position each bowl separately. This can be useful if your dog prefers water away from their food or you’d like an additional water bowl elsewhere in your home.

Still unsure? Send us your dog’s breed, age and approximate weight, and we’ll be happy to help you choose.

SHOULD I CHOOSE A SOLO OR A DUO ELEVATED BOWL?

Choose the Duo if you’d like food and water together in one complete feeding station. The Solo gives you more flexibility: it works well in smaller or awkward spaces, and you can position food and water separately if that’s what your dog prefers.

I use two Solos for Monkey because she likes her water kept well away from her food. There’s no right answer—it simply depends on your dog, your space and how you prefer to arrange their bowls.

WHY DO SUBWOOFER BOWLS COST MORE?

Most dog bowls are designed to meet a target price. Ours weren’t.

From the beginning, our goal wasn’t to create the cheapest bowl we could manufacture. It was to create the best bowl we knew how to make. Every decision—from the materials and proportions to the engineering, finishing and packaging—was guided by performance, longevity and the everyday experience of living with your dog.

Nothing about our bowls is off the shelf. The aluminium stands, stainless steel bowls, rubber feet and packaging were developed specifically for Subwoofer. Each component has been carefully designed to work with the others as one complete system.

The Medium bowls cost more because they’re substantially larger. Their stands use thicker 6 mm aluminium and more than three times as much metal, while the larger, heavier-gauge stainless steel bowls hold twice the volume. Custom tooling is also required for components such as the flared bowl rims and rubber feet.

Making them cheaper would mean making compromises and creating a different product. We chose to make bowls designed to perform beautifully and be enjoyed for years.

    HOW STABLE ARE THE STANDS?

Stability was one of our highest priorities when designing the Subwoofer bowls. We carefully balanced the height-to-width ratio to maximise stability—one reason we haven't made the Medium stand any taller.

The rubber feet don't just protect your floors; they add grip to help keep the stand firmly in place, while the bowls are precision-engineered to sit securely within the stand for a quiet, rattle-free fit.

The result is a bowl that's designed to stay steady through the occasional paw bump, enthusiastic eater or mealtime shuffle, while remaining lightweight enough to move when you need to.

ARE THE ELEVATED BOWLS SUITABLE FOR OUTDOOR USE??

The bowls can be used outdoors occasionally, but we don’t recommend leaving the set outside permanently.

The 304 food-grade stainless steel bowls and powder-coated aluminium stand are durable, but prolonged exposure to sun, rain and coastal salt air may shorten their lifespan—particularly the lifespan of the rubber feet.

Direct sunlight can also heat the bowls and drinking water. Food may spoil more quickly outdoors, where it’s also exposed to dirt, insects and the elements.

If using your bowls outside, place them in a covered, sheltered area away from direct sunlight and bring them indoors afterwards. For the longest possible product life, we recommend keeping the set indoors.

IS THE STAINLESS STEEL FOOD GRADE?

Yes. We use premium 304 food-grade stainless steel—the same grade widely used in quality cookware and food-preparation equipment.

It’s non-toxic, rust-resistant, easy to clean and won’t absorb odours or flavours, making it an excellent material for everyday food and water bowls. The bowls are also dishwasher-safe, so they’re easy to keep hygienically clean.

As with any new stainless steel cookware or kitchen utensil, please wash the bowls before their first use. Running them through the dishwasher is the easiest option and will remove any fine steel dust or polishing residue left from the manufacturing process.

With proper care, they’re designed to provide years of reliable, hygienic use.

CAN I BUY REPLACEMENT BOWLS OR FEET?

Yes. Our 304 food-grade stainless steel bowls are available to purchase separately. We recommend adding one or two spares to your order so you always have a clean bowl ready while the others are in the dishwasher.

Every stand also comes with a spare set of rubber feet. If you ever need another set, just get in touch. We’ll provide them at no charge; you’ll only need to cover the postage.

WHY IS THERE A CURVED DIP BETWEEN THE BOWLS?

The curved dip exists because of Monkey. Like many floppy-eared dogs, her ears had a habit of ending up in her water bowl whenever she ate. It was one of those small everyday frustrations that I noticed again and again.

Most elevated duo bowls position the food and water bowls directly beside each other. I thought there had to be a better solution. Rather than simply spacing the bowls further apart, I designed a shaped dip between them to create a dedicated place for long ears to rest while dogs eat or drink.

It won't keep every dog's ears dry, but for many floppy-eared breeds it makes a noticeable difference. Like every feature on a Subwoofer bowl, it wasn't added for appearance—it exists because I believed there was a better way to solve a real, everyday problem.

DO RAISED BOWLS REALLY HELP OR ARE THEY HYPE?

Raised bowls aren’t essential for every dog, but they can make eating and drinking more comfortable for some—particularly seniors, dogs with limited mobility or those recovering from injury or surgery.

For healthy dogs, the choice often comes down to individual comfort and owner preference. Elevated feeding has also been discussed as a possible risk factor for bloat (GDV), especially in large, deep-chested breeds, so check with your veterinarian if you’re unsure what’s right for your dog.

Our Small and Medium stands elevate the bowls by 15 cm and 18 cm respectively—high enough to offer a comfortable feeding position without being unnecessarily tall.

WHAT MATERIALS ARE THE BOWLS AND STANDS MADE FROM?

Our bowls are made from premium 304 food-grade stainless steel, chosen for its durability, hygiene and resistance to rust. It’s dishwasher-safe, easy to clean and won’t absorb odours or flavours.

The stands are precision crafted from lightweight, corrosion resistant aluminium and finished with a durable, architectural grade powder coat designed to resist everyday wear and chipping. Rubber feet protect your floors and help keep the stand securely in place.

Small stands are made from 4 mm aluminium, while Medium stands use substantially thicker 6 mm aluminium for the additional strength and rigidity required by the larger design.

The Medium range isn’t simply a scaled up version of the Small. Its components have been re-engineered for larger dogs, including thicker, heavier stainless steel bowls that provide greater resistance to everyday knocks and wear.

Every material was selected for its performance, durability and longevity.

HOW MUCH FLOOR SPACE DOES THE STAND REQUIRE?

All four bowl stands are designed to fit comfortably into everyday living spaces without dominating the room.

The dimensions below have been rounded to the nearest centimetre for easy reference.

    • Solo Small: 24 × 19 CM | 9½ × 7 IN
    • Duo Small: 49 × 19 CM | 19 × 7 IN
    • Solo Medium: 34 × 29 CM | 13 × 11 IN
    • Duo Medium: 66 × 26 CM | 26 × 10 IN

Choosing a spot that's out of the way will make mealtimes more comfortable for your dog and help keep your bowls looking their best for years to come.

WHAT DOES THE FIVE YEAR ELEVATED BOWL GUARANTEE COVER?

Your elevated bowl is guaranteed for five years against faults in the stand, stainless steel bowls and other structural components. If something fails because of a problem with the materials or workmanship, get in touch and we’ll assess it, then repair or replace the affected part where appropriate.

The guarantee doesn’t cover accidental damage, improper care, replaceable rubber feet or normal wear and tear, including scratches, dents and other cosmetic changes.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY ELEVATED BOWLS?

Subwoofer bowls are designed to be easy to live with and simple to care for.

The stainless steel bowls are dishwasher safe and can also be washed by hand with warm, soapy water. As with any new stainless steel kitchenware, please wash them before their first use.

Clean the powder coated aluminium stand by wiping it with a soft, damp cloth or washing it by hand with mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners, scourers and harsh chemicals, as these may damage the finish.

Never put the stand in the dishwasher. Only the removable stainless steel bowls are dishwasher-safe.

The rubber feet help protect your floors and keep the stand securely in place. Although we haven’t experienced any issues, some rubber compounds can react with certain floor finishes over time. If you’re concerned, place the stand on a mat or move it regularly to clean and check the floor beneath it.

With normal care, your Subwoofer bowls are designed to look great and perform beautifully for years to come.
