WHY DO SUBWOOFER BOWLS COST MORE?
Because they’re not mass-produced, off-the-shelf feeders. We designed them from scratch to fix every flaw cheaper elevated bowls can’t.
Thoughtful engineering and premium materials naturally carry a higher price, but the goal was performance and longevity, not padding the cost. To make them cheaper we’d have to cut corners: use generic bowls without precise measurement stamping or an elevated, easy-lift rim, accept rattling because a stock shape wouldn’t allow a snug, silent fit, use thinner aluminium and weaken the stand, settle for powder coat that chips and rusts, and skip properly fitting rubber feet. And none of that could come with a five-year guarantee. That’s not how we roll at Subwoofer.
The sharper price jump between Small and Medium reflects real production realities: the Medium’s stand is wider, taller, and cut from thicker 6 mm aluminium—more than triple the metal. Its bowls are heavier-gauge stainless with double the capacity, and their pronounced flared rim required a second custom mould. Even the larger feet needed their own mould.
We absorbed a five-figure tooling investment rather than passing it all on, but premium materials, custom moulds, and craftsmanship inevitably make our bowls costlier than mass-produced white labelled feeders.
We know that isn’t for everyone, but for those who care about design details and who see the value in investing once rather than replacing often, these bowls will be a delight to own and use for years to come.
WHAT SIZE SHOULD I CHOOSE?
The simplest guide is bowl capacity:
Small = 2 cups
Medium/Large = 4 cups
Our small (15cm tall) is suitable for most dogs 5-15kgs and our Medium (18 cm tall) is the sweet spot for most dogs over 15 kgs. For taller breeds, it may not be perfect height-wise, but it’s still going to be more comfortable than feeding off the floor
HOW MUCH SPACE WILL THEY TAKE UP?
Small Duo:: L 49CM x W 18.5 x H 15 | L 19IN X W 7IN X H 6IN
Medium Duo: L 66 X W 26 X H 18CM | L 26IN X W 10IN X H 7IN
The small has roughly the footprint of a medium-sized tote bag, while the medium is more like a narrow breakfast-in-bed tray. They’re designed to tuck neatly out of the way—think a quiet corner of the kitchen, beside a pantry cabinet, or under a hall table. Avoid busy walkways so you’re not tripping over dinner time. At home, Monkey’s set lives under a vintage hall table—out of the thoroughfare but still easy for her to reach.
ARE THE BOWLS SUITABLE FOR OUTDOOR USE?
The bowls and stand are built for indoor use but will cope perfectly well on a covered patio or any sheltered spot. The stainless steel and powder-coated aluminium can handle weather changes, but the rubber feet aren’t designed for constant sun or rain, so avoid leaving the set fully exposed to the elements long-term.
RAISED BOWLS: HELP OR HYPE?
Raised bowls can absolutely help some dogs, especially seniors or those with stiff joints — by easing strain on the neck and back. The “hype” comes from debate around bloat risk: opinions vary, so it’s always best to check with your vet if you’re unsure. Our stands lift bowls 15 cm off the floor — high enough to add comfort, never so high as to be excessive.
HOW STABLE ARE THE STANDS?
We carefully balanced the height-to-width ratio to prevent tipping — one reason we haven’t gone taller on the large size. The rubber feet don’t just protect your floors; they add grip and help keep the stand sturdy. Think of it like a sports car: lower-profile tyres hug the road for stability, and the same principle applies here. These stands are engineered to stay steady through the occasional paw bump or mealtime shuffle.
IS THE STAINLESS STEEL FOOD GRADE?
Absolutely! We use food-grade 304 stainless steel, the same grade widely used for kitchen utensils and cookware. It’s more than adequate for pet food bowls, non-toxic, rust-resistant, and chosen so you can feed your dog with complete confidence.
