How to Wash that Collar (Without Wrecking it)

Wash Day for Your Dog’s Collar

Your dog’s collar goes everywhere they do, from muddy park missions to the odd roll in something only they could love. Eventually, it will need a wash—and the good news is your Subwoofer collar can handle it, with care.

For everyday dirt, a quick hand wash is your best first move. A gentle scrub with mild soap under cold or warm water will lift most of the grime without stressing the hardware or the leather tab. Wipe down the brass hardware and leather tab with a damp cloth, and you’re good to go.

But sometimes, a deeper clean is needed—the collar equivalent of giving your carpets a proper shampoo a few times a year.

In that case, use a cold or warm gentle cycle with mild detergent to protect the webbing and hardware. Pop the collar inside a garment bag and toss a few well-loved towels  (not new, dye-heavy ones) in the machine to soften the spin, protecting both your collar’s solid brass hardware and your washing machine. Hang to dry in the shade, and never tumble dry.

There’s no need to machine wash after every adventure; every few months is plenty to keep your collar looking sharp while maintaining its integrity for the long haul.

And the lead? That’s a hard no.

There’s too much leather on our leads to make them machine-friendly—leather and machines don’t mix. If your lead needs a refresh, spot clean the webbing with mild soap, keeping the leather out of the water. Wipe down the leather tabs with a damp cloth and finish with a dab of leather conditioner if needed.

A bit of care keeps your collar and your leads looking sharp—and ready for the next adventure.
